The BC Entertainment Hall of Fame is pleased to bestow renowned Canadian band Spirit of the West with a bronze star, destined for Vancouver’s Starwalk on Theatre Row, and inducting the band into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame. The award will be presented at the annual Spirit of the West show at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver on March 15th. Spirit of the West members are John Mann, Geoffrey Kelly, Hugh McMillan, Tobin Frank, Matthew Harder & Vince Ditrich.
If one honour wasn’t enough, Access to Music Foundation (formerly Music BC Charitable Foundation) is also pleased to present the bi-annual Beautiful Heart Award, in recognition of a person whose charitable spirit and musical contributions have made a significant impact to British Columbia and Canada. The recipient of this year’s award is the inimitable John Mann, Spirit of The West frontman and acclaimed solo artist.
John’s efforts towards Bulembu.org, a Swazi-based children’s charity, and his work with the BC Cancer Foundation will be recognized by Access to Music President & CEO Elka Yarlowe, who will be joined onstage at the March 15th show by representatives from Bulembu.org and the BC Cancer Foundation, to present the award.
John Mann’s newest solo offering Waiting Room is quickly becoming a critical success, and the recording highlights his recent battle with cancer. The presentation of the award reflects his creative efforts surrounding this challenge and others he’s faced in his life & career. To stream Waiting Room, click HERE.

The BC Entertainment Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization that was created in 1992 to honour those British Columbians who have made an outstanding contribution to the entertainment industry. The Hall’s current membership honours over 300 remarkable talents. For the past 22 years, The Historic Orpheum has been the home of the Hall of Fame’s StarWall located in the lobby. All Stars on the StarWall are also recognized with bronze plaques embedded in the sidewalks along Granville Street.
Access to Music Foundation supports music education throughout British Columbia by providing instruments to underfunded music programs in public schools, Aboriginal schools, community centres, and regional youth orchestras; scholarships for young artists pursuing a career in music, and mentor-based music programs for at-risk youth.
Beginning in 2004, Access to Music Foundation has developed into one of the most active and successful champions of music education in British Columbia. In the last 5 years, the Foundation’s flagship program “Adopt an Instrument”, has provided over 20 schools and music programs with more than $100,000 in new instruments, thanks to a dedicated staff, volunteer base, and corporate funders. Other programs include The Access to Music Scholarship Trust; which has provided over $40,000 to talented youth pursuing post-secondary education, and Songwriters of a New Generation (SONG); a mentor-based program teaching songwriting skills to at-risk youth as a means of healthy expression.
