Since last summer’s tour across western Canada, The Jessica Stuart Few has been an incredibly busy, jetsetting band. Their 2013 album Two Sides To Every Story was released in Japan last September along with a tour of the country, which garnered the group a top 40 single and created truth in the ever popular adage, “We’re big in Japan!”

Often touted for their innovative use of the traditional Japanese koto (13-stringed harp), The Jessica Stuart Few and Two Sides have been nominated for Best Album by the 2014 Independent Music Awards, prompting a special end-of-tour concert at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre in late July. Uniting mother and daughter in music, The Harbourfront is bringing in the elder Ms. Stuart; a genuine koto master, (and Jessica’s inspiration to learn the instrument) to perform in a collaborative show with the trio. This performance marks The Jessica Stuart Few’s first collaboration with Wendy Stuart, and also celebrates the Toronto-based band’s return home from a 9000km tour.

In celebration of this summer’s western Canadian tour, The Jessica Stuart Few are releasing TWO BONUS TRACKS (click this link to download), “Somehow” and “Kid Dream” (remastered) previously available only on the Japanese release of Two Sides To Every Story. “It’s a rare album that comes along that truly sounds unique and independent of the rest. Toronto’s The Jessica Stuart Few gave me one of those WTF moments, stopping me in my tracks for a good, close listen..”
Bob Mersereau, CBC Radio

Jessica Stuart lived in Japan as a child, but grew up in Vancouver with a koto master for a mother, and studied the traditional 13-stringed floor harp with her mother’s sensei. On Two Sides to Every Story, Stuart marries the sound of the unique instrument with her love of guitar rock, soul and jazz, creating an innovative and refreshing sound, while exhibiting pitch-perfect vocals and harmonies reminiscent of Joni Mitchell. The unconventional and alluring combination has earned the trio main stage performances at festivals worldwide (NXNE, Yokohama Jazz Promenade, CMW, Islands Folk Festival, TD Toronto Jazz Festival, Vancouver Chutzpah! Festival, Kiama Jazz & Blues Festival et.), a 2013 Soundclash Music Award nomination, two 2012 Toronto Independent Music Award nominations (Best Live Performance, Best Recording), and regular rotation on CBC Radio One and Two. Musically innovative and lyrically refreshing, The Globe and Mail’s Brad Wheeler calls them, “endlessly charismatic.”
