Diyet Sings to Make You Feel Good... and You Do.
ARTIST:
Diyet Van Lieshout
MODUS OPERANDI:
Diyet combines her natural ability with her classical training to create a groovy, danceable sound. The inspiration for her music comes from her commitment to her First Nations community, and her desire to shed the stereotypes and remove the barriers faced by modern aboriginal people, but the music and it's message speak to people of every nation. Through her soulful, poppy and contemporary songs, Diyet offers hope through stories of her experiences, and spreads her message of great human potential.
Diyet performs with multiple configurations, with anywhere from two to five band members, as well as in a collaboration with fellow northern musicians Leela Gilday (NWT) and Nive Neilson (Greenland) as A Circumpolar Soundscape.
PHYSICAL EVIDENCE:
Diyet released her debut The Breaking Point in February 2010, which is available on CD Baby and iTunes, thanks in part to the Yukon Film and Sound Commission. The album reached #1 on the National Aboriginal Music Charts and is heard on the radio across Canada, in Europe, and parts of the US.

THE BACK STORY:
Born and raised in Burwash Landing, Yukon, Diyet is from the Kluane First Nation. Her great grandfather was an emminent potlatch singer, her grandmother an opera singer, and her father a musician, so it's little wonder that Diyet was born with a talent for song. She took her natural ability to school at University of Victoria, earning a degree in music, and stuck around the "big city" for a few years, sharpening her skills and receiving song placements in Canada, Japan and Europe. In 2005 Diyet moved back to the Yukon Territory, craving a return to her roots in Burwash Landing, and nurturing a desire to contribute to her people and community. What she found was new inspiration for her music, and her debut The Breaking Point, was created from that, with help from Juno Award winning Producer Bob Hamilton, and Diyet's husband, Robert van Lieshout. The album was released at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics on multiple stages, offering an international audience for the debut of her beautiful music. She has since played multiple festivals in western Canada, with her own band as well as in the collaboration A Circumpolar Soundscape.
