Matthew Lien, in collaboration with Yin-chung Huang, is NOMINATED for World Recording of the Year!
ARTIST:
Matthew Lien
MODUS OPERANDI:
Matthew Lien has a unique musical expression, utilizing the sounds of nature and the sounds of life itself mixed with traditional instrumentation. He's recorded noises made by everything from forest creatures at night to an underwater volcano, and woven these into his environmentally charged music. Lien uses music as an outlet for his cause, playing piano and guitar, singing, and composing music based on his strong connection with the natural world, desiring to protect it as much as expose its beauty. Some of his music is instrumental, and some is lyrical, but all of it is the sound of nature, the voice of culture; music inspired by an endangered world.
Finding his niche, Matthew has gained success through going where his craft is held in high regard. In Taiwan Matthew is a living legend, with sold out concerts and tens of thousands of albums purchased.
PHYSICAL EVIDENCE:
Matthew released his nominated recording Orchid Island in summer 2010, which is available on CD Baby and iTunes. After being asked to produce the soundtrack for director Nick Upton's "Spirits of Orchid Island" documentary, Lien expanded upon his original compositions, utilizing the bamboo flute sounds produced by friend Yin-chung Huang, adding tracks, and rearranging songs to create the album.
