Raucous, Slick and Gritty; Gordie Tentrees is Taking it to the Next Level with Hill Country News
ARTIST:
Gordie Tentrees - Vocals/Guitar/Dobro/Harp
Ken Hermanson - Guitar/Lap Slide/Banjo
Aiden Tentrees - Bass
Patrick Hamilton - Drums
MODUS OPERANDI:
Gordie Tentrees has built his music career up from the base over the past ten years, starting from kitchen jam parties and quickly building his chops to international touring levels. He combines visceral lyrics, sung in an honest holler, and supports it with rollicking melodies full of finger picked guitar, slide, banjo and dobro. It's roots music with a distinctly northern edge, a whole-hearted approach, and an undeniably catchy feel. It's no surprise Gordie's popularity has grown exponentially over the years, since he plays an average of 200 shows per year throughout Canada, the US and Europe. In his own words, "Travelin' Song Man, gone too long..."
PHYSICAL EVIDENCE:
Gordie has released 3 studio albums and a live album to date, earning critical acclaim in every market he reaches. His latest release, Naked in Scandinavia was recorded live at a concert in Helsinki, Finland, and he plans to return in early 2012 to tour the album in the land of its creation. In the meantime, Gordie Tentrees & Hill Country News have been busy recording a new studio album, taking that northern roots groove, and building it up with a gritty, swampy overtone. Though the new album, titled North Country Heart, won't be released until spring 2012, you can preview three unmastered tracks below.
Listen to Tracks:

THE BACK STORY:
Gordie Tentrees first came to the Yukon to pursue teaching, but was lured in by the sirens of the Yukon's talented musical pool. Finding himself playing guitar and writing songs more than anything else, he set to recording and releasing his first album 29 Loads of Freight in 2004. Upon the release of his second album Bottleneck to Wire (2007), Gordie started touring extensively and sharing stages with such luminaries as Fred Eaglesmith and Kelly Joe Phelps, leading up to his Western Canadian Music Award Nominated album Mercy or Sin (2009, nominated 2010 for Best Solo Roots Recording). He's showcased at North American Folk Alliance, NXNE, SXSW and the Western Canadian Music Awards (4 times!) as well as being a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, reaching millions with his skill and dedication to his music.
