Kim Beggs is DOUBLE NOMINATED at the Western Canadian Music Awards, for Solo Roots Recording of the Year and the Multimedia Award for her own Animated Music Video
ARTIST:
Kim Beggs
MODUS OPERANDI:
Kim Beggs is bold, brilliant, dark and sincere, with an instantly recognizable "Sturdy, Trusting, Girl-Woman Voice" (Globe and Mail) that blends sweetness and grit. While occasionally "Scuffing Up The Dirt" (Americana UK), her award-winning songwriting remains vulnerable and clear eyed. On her double-nominated album Blue Bones, the effortless grace and breezy delivery that has become her vocal trademark is supported by some of North America's most respected roots musicians to make this the best sounding album of an already impressive career.
"A voice as cool and as refreshing as the Yukon River, delivers songwriting of the highest order" says Maverick Magazine (UK) in a five-star review of Blue Bones, while Now Magazine says "Kim Beggs is the real deal" (NNNN).
PHYSICAL EVIDENCE:
Kim Beggs released her third album Blue Bones in July 2010 through Black Hen Music in Canada, the US and Europe. It is available worldwide and also from Kim's Website. Thanks in part to FACTOR, Canada Council for the Arts, Yukon Advanced Artist Award and the Yukon Film and Sound Commission for support in writing and recording Blue Bones, it was received with international acclaim.

THE BACK STORY:
It's often been said that all Canadian artists are influenced by geography, and even though the soul informing Kim Beggs music might sound Appalachian, it's easy to hear how the expansiveness of the Yukon allows her creative imagination to roam. The west was settled long ago and Kim's frontier heart needed somewhere to inhabit, merge with and make her own.
An award-winning carpenter and songwriter, Beggs has released three albums since 2004. Her debut album Streetcar Heart was embraced by CBC Radio One's "Sunday Edition", while Wanderer's Paean was released to international acclaim, and was nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award and a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2007. She has recorded with Steve Dawson, Bob Hamilton, Gurf Morlix and Laurie Lewis, and shared the stage with Buffy St. Marie, Stephen Fearing, and Chris Jagger, along with other luminaries of the music world.
Beggs has also written for and had music placed in CBC television broadcasts, including Canadian Reflections and Borders. She was the most played artist on the Galaxie Folk Roots Channel in June 2011. Her nominated music video reveals Kim Beggs as a filmmaker as well; her video world-premiered in Dawson City in April 2011 and will be shown in the Vancouver Women's Film Festival in March 2012.
